All Time Low originated in Baltimore, Maryland, where the band was created during their high school experience. The band started in 2003 according to the band’s bio on iTunes. It was centered around the two original members Alex Gaskarth (guitar and vocals) and Jack Barakat(guitar). They later added the two current member of the band Zach Merrick(bassist) and Rian Dawson(drummer).
Influences
The band bases its music on the early pop punk genre, drawing heavily from bands such as Green Day and Blink-182. In fact, before they signed with Emerald Records early on in their careers All Time Low would cover a great many songs by Green Day. The band is so influenced by the music that they listened to that they based the name of the band after the song “Head on Collision” by New Found Glory (as mentioned in the All Time Low wiki page).
Rise to Stardom
At the end of their freshman year in high school, All Time had collected its current lineup. It was also this year when they began touring down the East Coast and the South during spring and summer breaks. They eventually signed their first record deal in 2004 with a local record company, Emerald Records. Under this label, they released an EP, Two Words to Remember When Dealing With the End. They then released their first studio album, The Party Scene, during the year 2005.
During the spring of 2006, just before they graduated, All Time Low was signed by Hopeless Records. That July, they released the EP Put Up or Shut Up. They played at a few Warped Tour shows and went touring with Amber Pacific. The album Put Up or Shut Up climbed and peaked at number 20 of the US Independent Albums Chart.
In 2007, the band released So Wrong, It’s Right, All Time Low’s first album with Hopeless Records. The song “Dear Maria, Count Me In” a song about a stripper from Baltimore, became a hit and the band steadily grew in popularity. They were featured on many MTV shows and made their live TV debut on The Jimmy Kimmel Live.
In 2009, All Time Low released their newest album, Nothing Personal. They wrote the album in combination with various other artists and producers which contributed to its more mainstream sound. This change caused a public outcry among many of the older fans, while drawing in a newer, younger crowd. The song Weightless was released on March 24, 2009, a teaser to the album that was to come. Nothing Personal then came out in July of 2009.
Upcoming Album
All Time Low has recently notified the public through their Twitter accounts that they will be releasing a new pop punk album named Dirty Work sometime in 2011. The album was supposed to be released on March 21, 2011, but problems with their record label forced them to postpone to a later date, one that has not been released to the public. Dirty Work is also the name of the tour that All Time Low will be playing this year along with Hey Monday and Yellowcard.
